How to check your IKEA Australia gift card balance

IKEA gift cards are a nifty way to get your BAGGEBO or BILLY fix. That’s especially the case if you score some bonus supermarket reward points at the same time, which is often why I buy them. But how can you check how much is left on the card if you don’t use it all in one go?

Unfortunately, the official IKEA help on this topic includes a broken link, and the actual site is not super-helpful. So here’s a quick guide on how to do it.

Check your IKEA Australia gift card balance: step-by-step

As you’d expect, you need to enter the card and PIN number to check. But as I’ve learned, you also have to ignore some of what IKEA tells you.
  1. Log into your IKEA account.
Yes, somewhat annoyingly you have to be an IKEA Family member to check your card balance. This isn’t because the card is associated with your account, it’s just a way for IKEA to drive up membership numbers. But anyway, head to IKEA and log in.
  2. Head to the balance checker.
Once you’ve logged in, go straight to the IKEA Australia balance transfer check.
  3. Type in all 19 digits.
The text on screen says to enter the last 13 digits, but that won’t work. Enter the entire 19-digit card number, from the back of the card. It’s the one above the bar code, not the one below it. Then click or tap on the arrow to continue.
  4. Enter your pin code.
The four-digit code can be found under the scratch-off area on the back of the card. Then click or tap on the arrow to continue.
Provided you entered your card number correctly (it often takes me a couple of goes), you’ll see your balance and expiry date on screen. Gift cards expire 3 years after purchase, so don’t let them go to waste!
