ALDI special buys: A Twistie in the tail

ALDI’s special buys for Wed 24 April 2024 include ‘Familiar Favourites’, its catch-all category for brand-name foodstuffs (which it wouldn’t normally sell) at discount prices. And as is often the case, while these discounts are solid, they aren’t any better than what you’d also regularly find at Woolworths or Coles.

Let’s use Twisties as an example. ALDI is selling a 90g pack of cheese Twisties for $1.39.

The normal price for those in a supermarket would be $2.70, so that’s close to half price. But actually, right now Woolworths has them for $1.35 – a little cheaper than ALDI.

That goes off sale the same day ALDI’s special starts. Weirdly, this week Coles also has Twisties on sale, but for a comparatively over-the-top $2 a packet. However, Coles has also featured the $1.35 deal in the past.

Bottom line? ALDI’s often cheaper, but not always. For more examples of the same phenomenon, check out Barbecue Shapes and Tim Tams.
